Dale Rudin, Ph.D., received her doctorate from the University of Texas in 1992. Prior to returning to school in psychology, she obtained a Master’s Degree from Boston College in the area of Deaf-Blind/ Multihandicapped education. She was a principal at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. She is a Licensed Psychologist as well as a Licensed Specialist
in School Psychology. She has conducted numerous workshops for parents of children with special needs, teachers and other professionals. In addition to providing assessment services, her private practice focuses on working with individuals, couples and families. Dale has a special interest in the accurate diagnosis of autism in adults. She is a member of the Therapeutic Assessment Institute Faculty and Center for Therapeutic Assessment in Austin, Texas.
Training and Topic Overview
The training will be worth 6.5 Continuing Education (CE) credits. This program is co-sponsored by the Society of Personality Assessment (SPA). SPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. SPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
This workshop is designed to help you:
- Summarize the diagnostic criteria in making a diagnosis of ASD.
- Define Theory of Mind.
- Be aware of common misunderstandings between an ASD diagnosis and other differential diagnoses between an ASD.
- State the underlying values of Therapeutic Assessment.
- State an essential component of diagnosing an ASD.
- Explain whether clients with ASD demonstrate empathy.
This workshop will focus on using a Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment approach in the assessment of adults who present with behaviors and concerns that are consistent with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The workshop will discuss differential diagnoses, useful assessment tools, and how to involve clients as collaborators in the assessment process. A key message will be that clinical judgment is essential in making a diagnosis of an ASD. Points will be illustrated with videos of actual clients, and participants will be actively involved in the workshop.
